Happy New Year! I am very excited to kick start 2020 with some really fun activities! On Friday, we spoke about good germs and the not so good germs. With illness and flu season upon us, I thought it would be a great lesson to start off the new year. We learned about germs and how to avoid getting them and passing them along as best we can! We put some "fake" germ lotion on our hands and took a peek under the black light. We then rinsed off our hands and took a peek under the black light again to see if the germs really were washed away...there were some surprised kiddos! See pictures below!
Homework resumes this week!
Friday: Xtra Math Logins were sent home along with work that was corrected over the holiday break!
Tomorrow in your child's binder will be a 1/2 sheet of green paper, reminding you of your conference day and time.
This week we will begin Unit 3 Week 2 in Wonders "What can we see in the sky". We will be working on Long i spelling patterns and present tense verbs in grammar. Students will be reviewing commas in a series as well...this has been a tricky one! We will be reading Starry Night in our Readers/Writers workshop books and collecting text evidence.
In math students will be taking their Unit 3 Math Assessment and Unit 3 Open Response. In science we are learning ALL ABOUT MATTER! We will be completing a mini Matter experiment everyday, while making hypothesis and writing them in our science journals.
This week, students will also be taking the WINTER AIMs Web benchmark; one of the reasons second grade wanted to wait until January for conferences. We feel as though having the report card and another benchmark data point, we will be able to give you more detailed information on your child's growth in the first trimester.
I look forward to conferences beginning January 13th!
Our Classroom "Craft Theme Basket" items are due by the end of this week. We are still in need of items to fill our basket. Thank you to have donated items so far!
Have a great week!
