I hope everyone had a wonderful fall weekend!
This week the entire school will be practicing a planned Evacuation Drill on Thursday, October 3rd. Also on Thursday afternoon we will be creating with cardboard during the Cardboard Challenge. We have TONS of cardboard but could use a few more rolls of masking tape. At the end, all of our creations will be broken down and bright to the transfer station where the school earns money for recycling the cardboard (masking tape is the only tape that can be recycled)
Check out this video on Caine's Arcade...the inspiration behind the cardboard challenge...
Friday we made Multiple Intelligence Rockets with our 5th grade Reading Buddies in Mrs. Flanagan's class.
First, Mrs. Flanagan's class read So Many Smarts, by Michael Genhart to our class. We then talked about the different things that we are all good at...and wow we are all different...so awesome! We praise each other for our similarities as well as our differences!
We hung the rockets in the room to remind us that it is okay to be different and that we all show our "MANY SMARTS" in different ways.
We had a great week last week! We had another fire drill Thursday morning and then headed to the Magazine drive kickoff presentation in the gym. The Magazine Drive is a huge fundraiser for our school. I myself have purchased some great magazines through this program!
-SPELLING - List A/B - Beginning this week students will have a choice of list A or B, depending how many incorrect they got on their pretest...they do NOT have to be on list B if they got 100% on their pretest.
-CLASSROOM CONTACTS - I have received all of the Classroom Contact Forms and will be compiling them into a list and sending home with students tomorrow. PLEASE use this form of contact for PARTY INVITATIONS, play dates, etc. Birthday invites are NOT to be passed out at school....UNLESS Every single student gets one.
- HOMEWORK - Homework is due every Friday. You do not need to keep the Reading Log page to fill in for Friday. Please note that I update homework every week on my web page under the "Homework" tab. There you can find the spelling words for the week. If it is lost, please fill out a blank piece of paper for the reading log and spelling menu. If homework is not passed in, it is a zero in the grade book.
-SCHOLASTIC - I will be placing our Scholastic Book Club order THIS FRIDAY after school. If you choose to order you can do so online or send the paperwork in by Friday. The class voted and they want a new series of books we are saving points for!
-PUMPKINS - We will be doing some pumpkin exploration in October. I need one large orange pumpkin and one NON-orange pumpkin (either white, lots of bumps, etc.). We will be using the pumpkins in science. We will compare/contrast and then color and write about our findings. As we get closer to Halloween we will gut the pumpkins and use them for Math by making estimates on seeds, how much they weigh, etc. If you would like to donate a pumpkin, please reach out to me and I will add you to the donation list so I don't end up with 10 pumpkins. These pumpkins will not be returned to you. Thank you!
Looking forward to another great week!
What a great week we have had! We "Filled our Bucket" as a class and earned our first reward. The students voted and... stuffed animal day it was! We have been working really hard on our behaviors; listening when teacher is giving directions, not talking when teacher is talking, etc. We are doing great as a class but still need reminders throughout the day! We will keep working on it!
We learned about Patriot Day and brought home a booklet to share with our families. We also wrote letters to the New Boston Police and Fire Department to thank them for everything they do for our town. They are our local heroes!
Today we worked on a project together....CRACKING THE CODE! We have to work as a group to read and answer questions to solve the mystery. Today we were able to Crack the Code of the missing school supplies. As soon as all of the photo release forms are back, I can begin posting pictures of students working in the classroom! I will be sending out a reminder for these forms again today!
We are done with AIMsWeb testing so I am looking forward to starting my math and reading groups! If your student will be picked up for interventions, a permission slip will go home to you first!
Ice Cream has started and it is every Friday for .75 cents
Popcorn begins Wed. Sept 25th for .50 cents (unless you pre-bought)
If your child has a change of plans, please send in a note! (There are times when I am not with students at dismissal. For example IEP meeting, out sick, etc. Bus drivers also have subs, so please make sure there is always a note!)
Have a wonderful weekend!
What an amazing first week we had! We took a lot of time out of our days to get to know each other, as well as the classroom rules, procedures and expectations.
I also gave the students a spelling inventory, beginning of the year math assessment and a few other activities that were direction based so I could gather a baseline of where each student is individually (for example, the "Read and Draw" coloring activity coming home this week helped to assess their reading, ability to read details, follow directions, etc).
This coming week the students will be taking the AIMsWeb Math and Reading assessments on the iPads in the classroom. All of this information is helping me get to know your kiddos so I can begin small group instruction for math and reading in the next week or two. I will explain more about my small group instruction tomorrow night at Back to School Night for Parents from 6:40-7:10pm in my classroom.
All of the forms sent from the office (nurse form, computer, etc.) were due back on Friday. If you have any last forms to fill out, please get them to me asap so I can return them to the office on Monday after school.
This week we will begin our first week of homework. If your child forgets their homework packet at school, you can always check their homework on this website under the "HOMEWORK" tab.
See you tomorrow night for BACK TO SCHOOL!
What an amazing first day we had!
First and foremost, I have added all of the "Guardian Email 1" to my class contacts list right from Power School (this is what the office has on file). If you would like an additional email (the other spouse/parent) to also receive my emails, please send me their email address and I will add them to my list as well. Many parents like both parent emails to be notified when I send out updates and information.
Today went by very quick and I am sure you have some tired kiddos. I myself am exhausted! We covered many classroom rules and procedures today. We also created an "ALL ABOUT ME" pennant that will be posted outside of our classroom for Back to School Night (for parents only). We will continue to learn about our classroom procedures and each other over the course of this week and next. I really like to nail down our classroom procedures and expectations and make sure they are solid. This way, we are ready to rock and start some really fun projects!
I wanted to say a HUGE THANK YOU to all of the classroom supply donations. We are stocked for awhile! I normally send out thank you notes, but it was a little hectic this morning so I wanted to send an email to reach everyone! You are very much appreciated!
I look forward to seeing you all on Monday, September 9th, from 6:40-7:10pm for Back to School Night for Parents. We will go over a ton of information that you do not want to miss!
*Reminder to send in all forms by Friday so they can be delivered to the appropriate places; nurse, office, etc.
Enjoy the rest of the week!
