On Friday we were able to take part in a really cool experiment! First we watched a power point presentation on germs, created by one of the 2nd grade parents. Then, we were able to put "germ lotion" on our hands and look at the germs under a black light. We then washed our hands with soap and water and looked under the black light again to see if they were really clean. We learned very quickly how thoroughly we need to wash our hands in order for the germs to be washed away!
We had a very busy day Friday along with our snow delay! We took our spelling test, phonics test, coins assessment and our owl adaptations assessment too!
This coming week there will be NO spelling homework, but instead a special "Helping Assignment" that will be due back after Thanksgiving on November 26th. We will also be taking our Unit 2 Math Assessment.
What an amazing experience to have Eyes on Owls come to our school for second graders. We kicked off our owl unit with 5 different owls. We will be wrapping up our week on owls on Friday (if the snow allows). We will take an assessment on owls and what we have learned about habitats! We have also been comparing and contrasting between bats and owls and everything we have learned about them so far.
That very same day, students got to dissect their very own owl pellet! They loved every minute of it!!!
Next week we will take our Unit 2 Math Assessment and move on to Unit 3 after Thanksgiving.
We are also coming to the point in time where we night start switching up some RTI groups depending on student needs. If your child is going to start seeing reading or math support, I will reach out and contact you before we begin our new groups.
Report cards will be going home around December 14th. Grade close on December 3rd and conferences will begin shortly after. Please make sure to sign up for a conference so we can chat about your child and the progress they have made so far.
Enjoy the photos!
What an incredible learning experience just a short walk down town can be! I love our town and the layers of history within New Boston.
Our first stop was at the Historical Society Building where we watched a small video and met our guest speakers. We then traveled with our guest speakers past the North East Cafe, Nan's House, Parker Mill, the old Ice House grounds, through the woods, across the foot bridge ending up at the library for snack.
Please enjoy the photos taken from our walking field trip.
If you haven't stopped by our classroom lately...here are a few awesome things we have been working in in second grade...
After our Bat Unit, we worked on a bat acrostic poem. Other bat activities will be going home this week.
Pumpkins! During our pumpkin unit, we compared and contrasted different pumpkins. We weighed, measured and counted seeds!
Check out our hard work!
Just a reminder that our Walking Field Trip will be tomorrow. We will leave at 8:15am and return to the building right before lunch. Students will need to bring a snack and water in their lunch box that is easy to carry. We will be stopping for snack about half way through the walk. Please make sure to wear weather appropriate shoes, clothing, jackets, hat and mittens. It will be very chilly tomorrow morning...mid 30's.
Our Halloween celebration was a lot of fun! We had some amazing costumes in 2nd grade this year! Please enjoy the pictures below!
As a reminder...

Just a reminder that we go outside TWICE a day for recess and the occasional fire drill where we are outside for 20 minutes. Please make sure your child comes to school dressed in a warm jacket, hat and gloves daily...
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
