Weekly Concept: Pets are our friends
Essential Question: How can a pet be an important friend?
Phonics Skill: two letter blends (st, cl, bl, etc.)
Spelling Words: grass, trips, crack, still, west, mask, clap, plans, milk, belt, fog, tub, she, by, he
High Frequency Words: boy, by, girl, he, she, her, small, want, were, what
Vocabulary Words: decide, proper, relationship, friendship, different, glance, stare, trade
Genre: fiction
Comprehension Strategy: Ask and answer questions
Comprehension Skill: Character, Setting, Events
Math: Main focus is on Odd & Even numbers, Filling in the Number line and Comparing and contrasting Numbers. Students she be able to identify an odd or even number and explain why it is odd or even. Students should be able to fill in missing numbers on a number line; whether they are skip counting by 1’s, 2’s, 5’s, 10’s; forwards and backwards. Lastly, students should be able to use, the <, > and = symbols correctly to compare numbers (using a mixture of numbers, coins, and number sentences) using their place value and other strategies.
Science/Social Studies: Scholastic News – The Playground Problem. Lots of discussions about playground rules and a classroom visit from Mr. Bridle to revisit NBCS playground rules.
