Happy Groundhog Day! Thank you Punxsutawney Phil!!! Hopefully Spring will be here soon! (With some snow this Thursday I hear!)
Wow! Another month come and gone! We have been very busy!!!
We just completed our Wonders Unit 3, where we ended the last week talking about how we express ourselves through art, music and dance. We read about how to make recycled instruments in our reading groups. What better way to test their skills, than by having them create their very own recycled instruments. They had a blast! We invited the music teacher Mrs. Kjellander into the class and played her a tune with our instruments. I LOVE how they were able to create and have fun while putting what they have learned into action. Friday was a great day!
We have wrapped up Unit 4 in our math as well and took our Unit 4 assessment. This will be coming home soon. Please review these skills at home with your kiddos. Telling time to the nearest 5 minutes is still tricky, so please ask your kiddos to tell you the time at home. This is a skill they need to master this trimester!
We have also wrapped up our States of Matter unit and will be finishing up our Weather Unit this week. Next week and most of February we will be learning about Presidents and American History and Symbols.
In writing we are creating stories about what we will look like and what we will be doing at 100 years old...because our 100th day of School is this FRIDAY, February 7th. We will begin our opinion writing the week after!
On the 7th we will spend the day reading, creating and playing 100th days activities that are aligned with our 2nd grade curriculum.
Coming up on Friday, Feb. 14th is our Kids Heart Challenge for Jump rope and Valentine's Day. Be on the lookout tomorrow for a pink piece of paper with info regarding our Feb. Friendship Day Celebration! It will be a simple celebration in our classroom focusing on FRIENDSHIP and what true friendship means.
The week before Feb. vacation is going to be spirit week. There will be a dress up/theme to each day. As soon as this is unveiled to teachers, I will pass the information along to you! At the end of the week we will be having an Olympic Style Pep Rally. Our class is going to represent IRELAND! I am so excited because I am taking a trip to IRELAND this summer! It is kind of perfect with all of the Irish decor out there with the upcoming St. Paddy's day. I have already purchased a St. Paddy's Day Green necklace for each student to wear to the Pep Rally and take home with them. I would like the students to wear green that Friday and feel free to get as decked out in St. Paddy's day gear as much as possible! Let's see some Irish Spirit! It will be a great way to kick off Winter Vacation!
Once again, thank you parents for all you do! Enjoy the photos of your kiddos making their recycled instruments!
